Web 2.0 Explained: Social Networking
Nick Bostic | February 11, 2008Okay, for those of you who are tech-savvy, you can probably ignore most of this article. But this site is for the people I meet who AREN’T tech-savvy. Wait! Don’t go away tech-savvy friends! The second video is for you…
So what is Social Networking and more importantly, how can it benefit you in the real estate environment?
First, there are a lot of Real Estate agents getting into social networking. I’m always a fan of the mentality of getting in early, and in many markets, especially Portland where I am, it’s apparently very early.
Second, your customers are flocking to these sites and you need to be as accessible as possible. Your sphere is turning around, instead of you having to push out to them, they are pulling from you (and not in a bad way). This is actually a good thing! Your costs go down and it’s easier to keep track of everyone and your relationships to them.
If you were to pick one, I would recommend LinkedIn. There is no poking or flashing text, it is designed to be a professional networking site. Best of all, you have access to so many people with very little effort. Go now, join.
As you can see above, Portland Oregon is actually the 4th fastest growing networks with over 10,000+ users. That’s not a bad customer base.
Furthermore, there are 8,100+ Real estate users nationwide. That could potentially be a lot of referrals…
I’ll be publishing video tutorials soon split into four aspects of a variety of sites. First, I will show you how to register. Second, I will demonstrate how to get started customizing your profile. Third, I will show you how to start building your online sphere. Fourth, I will show you how to keep in touch with those people.
But for now, a video that explains what social networking is:
And now the video for the tech-savvy types:

Can’t say I seen the Comedy Central one. I am actually putting together a Power Point for this topic right now.
How’s the technology Coaching business?
Some days I feel like the technology coaching business is like herding cats - everyone is all over the place. But it keeps me busy. I actually work for a title company, so it is currently offered (in person) to our customers, but they don’t mind this site so I’m able to share with everyone else.
If you need any help with the Power Point, don’t hesitate to ask.
Thanks. I also coach agents for technology. I have been doing that for a couple years with my Brokers Office. I am looking to expand it as a business.
